Be a Tree of Life & Deal w/the Roots! PDF download below
Spring is in the air and it’s obvious because our senses testify to it’s presence. We hear the birds singing, we see the flowers blooming and we breathe and sneeze the pollen in the air. At least that’s my experience. The evidence of the season helps us identify it’s arrival. As the plants and flowers start to bloom in our gardens, I’m often asked what variety they are. I’m grateful for the Google Lens camera on my phone that helps me identify these beauties. It’s the flowers or the fruit we see that gives us clues to what type of tree or plant it is.
It is the same with people. Our actions and the words that come out of our mouth are a reflection of what our heart looks like. I recently read in Matthew 12:33:-37 about how important it is to have a pure and good heart because our hearts determine what we believe and the words we say. And just like the plants and trees, people are seeing our behavior and hearing our words and they are identifying who we are by the fruit of our lips. We are told that the same mouth speaks blessings & curses. Our words matter but we get to choose to speak destructive words or life giving words. Watch the Video
But Jesus said that our good or evil hearts determine what we say. So what do we do if we realize the fruit of our lips is not very sweet to the ears? In this passage in Matthew, we read that if we make a bad tree to be a good tree, it’s bad fruit will become good fruit. Speaking of plants, it is in the soil that needs to be treated that allows us to make a tree good. But if we are talking about people, the soil that needs to be tended to is the soil of our hearts so that we are able to choose to speak life. That’s where the GOOD NEWS comes to play here. We cannot do this on our own. It is not the tree or the plant, but rather, the gardener who tends to the soil. When we surrender to the Lord & allow Him to heal our hearts and tend to the weeds we’ve allowed to grow in our soil, He will replace our fears with faith. He will replace false beliefs with truth & He will put His Spirit in our heart and will produce good fruit in our life.
When we allow our Master Gardener, Jesus, to put good soil in our souls through the watering of the Word of God and by trusting Him to work in us, not only do we begin to produce good fruit, but we look more like Him, and others are able to identify us as children of God. They can sense His Presence and His goodness as they testify to the fruit they see & hear. And according to Galatians 5:22-23, that fruit looks and sounds like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This is the type of fruit I want to be identified by this Spring and all year long. This is how we speak life and receive it in return. Our words matter! So…SPEAK LIFE!
