Calm Waves & Speak Peace To Your Storms!
After our son’s early May wedding, Greg & I were in need of rest and time alone, so off to our favorite place we headed. For 15 years, we’ve enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at a Florida beach front bed & breakfast we discovered. May 21st marks 38 years of marriage for us and we are more in love now than ever. Many people want to know our secret, so we tell them.
We’ve been intentional to continue to pursue one another and to pursue our relationship with Christ, both individually and as a couple. We walk out forgiveness and we try to stay humble, gentle and kind to one another. We continue to learn and grow in our communication and we are committed to each other and to our marriage. We’ve identified our God given shared marriage purpose and now we enjoy helping others to discover and live out theirs.
Greg & I also enjoy some common interests of which one of ours is exploring beaches. This time, while there, I wrote in my prayer journal, an insight I was reflecting on while reading my Bible. At the same time, I was hearing and watching the big waves crash on the shore while hearing the thunder in the distance and watching the storm clouds roll in. So reading the story of Jesus calming the waves and bringing peace to the storm resonated even more with me. I decided to record this month’s video as a result and I wanted to share the beauty of the ocean with you. So, I hope you enjoy this segment of a Real Life Hack message… from the beautiful Destin beach at the Henderson Park Inn.
WANT TO GO A LITTLE DEEPER?
We read In Mark 4, many Word picture story illustrations, known as parables, being told by Jesus. Afterwards, He is often quoted as saying, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” He later explained to his disciples that those that are close to Jesus and who are following Him (then and now) are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. Those who were not given spiritual ears and eyes, because of their unbelief or lack of desire to know Jesus, were confused (then and now) to the deeper things they heard or saw. But those who had an “Aha Moment” and made the correlation to what Jesus was “third party speaking” were (are) given even more understanding!
Understanding of what? And…Why am I talking about this with you now?
One reason I write to you monthly is it is my heart’s desire to equip others with the same help I have received — to LIVE FREE of fear, anxiety and an unforgiving spirit. The Bible tells us “Freely we have received so freely give!” Not only was my marriage saved (miraculously), but I was healed in my heart and mind at a depth I was unaware I needed healing in. In Matthew 10:8, Jesus instructs his disciples to share spiritual gifts, healing, and the gospel without charge, just as they received God’s grace and salvation without cost. We are called to generous living, gratitude, and a life of sharing what we’ve received, without expecting anything in return. By God’s grace, I truly have received much, so with His help, I give to you in hopes this helps you.
I know with all my heart that BECAUSE I had a secure foundation of faith as my footing long BEFORE my mental crises many years ago, the Lord was able to keep me from drowning in depression. Instead of being washed out to sea, I was able to walk sure footed on the waves of sudden irrational fears that came crashing in. I was also reminded by the Holy Spirit, who dwells in me, to speak the name of Jesus, to speak the truth of the Word of God (already planted deep in my heart) and to remember that He was with me and that I was not alone. Peace washed over me!
In that darkest hour…as I exercised the faith that I had, my faith did indeed GROW at a rapid rate. I was given eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart that understood. The ONE I had faith to trust, ignited the power of the Kingdom of God in my heart, mind and circumstance and gave me peace of mind in the storm going on in my physical body. There was a real out of balance chaotic storm raging in my body but my “spiritual eyes and ears” were calm and at peace. In short term… my body needed rest and a little help to regain balance. But the long term healing would require some deep inner heart work in which I did, with the help of the Holy Spirit & a faith-filled man of God who walked me through the process.
I let go of false beliefs and fears that had a grip on me and had been used many times by my spiritual enemy as a weapon against me. Once I identified and surrendered these to the Lord and received the truth from the Word of God as a replacement, I was indeed set free from fear and anxiety. It was soon put to the test! When the Covid shutdown happened and many were experiencing anxiety for the first time, and I was aware I was not, I said out loud, “Good Grief, I’m healed.” Immediately, I heard with my spiritual ears, “That’s right! And that’s the name of your book!” I heard and understood from the Lord, that He had healed me, called and equipped me to help others. But to do so, I would be required to speak up and to write that book. In Habakuk, we read… “Write the revelation down on tablets so a herald can run with it!”
I believe (the Word of God directs, heals, delivers, sets people free, is living, powerful & sharper than a 2-edged sword)… so I speak!
With my mouth, with a pen and on my apple tablet, I’m here to tell you, my friend, this GOOD NEWS! No matter what goes on around the world or in your life… you too, who carry Christ in your hearts, can calm the waves and speak peace to your circumstances around or within you. He who has ears to hear, what the Holy Spirit is speaking, will be given more understanding and those who use the measure of faith they have will be given more.
That day in a boat on the shore, Jesus spoke in parables to the crowd, then explained their meaning to His friends before demonstrating what He said, in the boat on the lake in the middle of the night, during a storm. It’s often in the middle of our storms that we realize His presence most. Does this resonate with you too?
