It is TIME to stop and take a moment to reflect on the goodness of God, the love of the Father, the whispers of the Holy Spirit and the ways of the Lord as we welcome this Fall season and prepare for the holidays. I love October and this one has not disappointed me. In addition to the cool evenings and the beautiful monarch butterflies in my gardens, I feel a calmness in my spirit as I slow down, spend intentional time with Jesus and prepare my heart to enter into the holiday season ahead.
In America (and I’m sure other parts of the world), we have become accustomed to instant gratification, hurried/busy schedules, and modern conveniences that help us do what we want, when we want and how we want. We can use our fingertips or voice commands to order food or whatever we want or need. With a small device in our hands, we can easily engage in several conversations at once, read a book or the Bible, research, check in on friends to find out everything about their lives, support a cause, schedule an appointment, book a flight, play a game, listen to music or basically do anything we want to do. We hardly have to WAIT for anything and if we do…we often become agitated, frustrated, anxious or fearful. Our hearts, minds and bodies get out of rest when we don’t stay calm.
If you can relate to what I’ve just mentioned, as most of us can, I have good news for you! It’s found in Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Some Bible versions interchange the word, “wait,” with trust or hope, which is expectancy. As we trust and hope in the Lord, we know (expect) our God will help us in our times of need, so we rest in His promises; and in the process, we are strengthened. We are sustained. Our batteries are recharged and our hearts stay in rhythm with Jesus as we wait on Him. And exactly how are we supposed to do this? May I suggest you find time to get into the Word, and to worship the Lord with all your heart, soul and the strength you do have, in spite of your circumstances, schedules, victories or disappointments. Talk to Jesus! He will calm your anxious heart as you fix your gaze on Him. He will renew you, strengthen you and lift you up so you can keep walking and not faint (or give up). Wait on Him! |

I wrote a song a few years ago while worshipping in my car. I was volunteering at a pregnancy clinic at the time, and days before an event, He gave me insight into the “waiting period” soon after His mother, Mary discovered she would give birth to the Savior of the world. I shared the story and the song to the group of donors that night and I’ve included the story and the song for you here. I hope it encourages you to wait upon the Lord, worship Him and let Him renew your strength this season. Slow down. Spend time with Jesus and share His love everywhere you go!
